Have to rest

Somehow I seem to have hurt my knee, some of you will know I have had knee problems for years but since getting fitter and stronger the problems have gone. Well last night I woke up at 2am with a very sore knee, hobbled downstairs and iced it, back to bed, an hour later I was awake again, repeated the process and slept through till the morning. It's sore now so I'll be resting it today, unfortuately I have no car today and an appointment in Bolton so I will have to ride to that, but its only 3 miles each way and I'll take it very easy!

  1. Oh no! I've had a knee problem so know how crap it is. Cycling may actually be ok once it calms down a little. It's the running you need to be careful of, you did have a bit of a mileage jump (been there, done that, hobbled). I never really had injuries until I started running. Fingers crossed for you.

  2. My fault, I had planned to rest yesterday but I just wanted to go running! I had been very sensible with my running till saturday! I'm hoping it'll be fine. My muscles that support my knee are a lot stronger now with all the riding I do so it should be fine by tomorrow.

  3. You've convinced me to be sensible too! My legs are stiff this morning from running, will try to get out on the errand bike later but nothing more than that.

  4. Yes I'm always encouraging people to be sensible but I don't always take my own advice!

I'm ever so sorry to hear about your knee. Running makes my knees hurt too.

  7. When my knee is playing up I can usually still ride. Agree with Julbags it's probably the big step up in mileage that got you, most training plans increase by 10% each week. Enjoy your rest!

  8. Was going to ride this morning, but decided to be sensible. I find rest and gentle walking helps. But I think icing it in the night helped its feeling a lot better.

  9. There must be something in the air that gets once injured knees to hurt - mine was absolutely killing me the other day (and I hadn't even ridden anywhere!)

  10. The cold weather effects them as well. I'm sure mine was just the jump in running mileage. Ali having more problems, I've had to stop her running today.
