Singlespeed or gears?

I've put a poll on my blog. Do you think I should ride transwales singlespeed or with gears? There is no singlespeed category this year unfortunately!

Vote over on the sidebar and comment here as to why!

  3. I think I voted, I'm not sure if its registered though? Anyway, singlespeed!

You know you can complete it which should give you a big psychological boost but riding it on a singlespeed should make it a whole new challenge for you again. I can't imagine you on any other bike offroad atm.

  4. Geared. Clearly nobody else is going to vote geared and I didn't want poor Trek to feel completely left out.

(Besides, I know that you always end up doing the opposite of whatever I say!)

  6. I vote for Trekster too....I didn't learn all that bike maintenance stuff for maintaining a single-speed!!

Plus, if you're hoping to podium, I think you'd be faster on the special stages on Trekster.

  8. Maybe you need to decide exactly what you want to get out of the race? If your aim is to place on the podium at the same position or higher than last year then you need to ride the bike you think will best do that. If your aim is to prove you can do all those miles singlespeed then ride your singlespeed. If you just want to have a fun week riding round Wales then pick whichever bike makes you grin the most.

I don't think other people can really decide for you.

  9. I don't know which bike I am fastest on. It will be harder singlespeed when I'm tired. But it is a challenge. I have no idea what I want to do!

More people have voted geared I notice but no comments as to why!

  11. Geared. Probably a controversial opinion, but if there's no singlespeed cat this year then why bother lessening your chances of getting on the podium again?
Do it on the geared bike and mount a challenge, I reckon. There's going to be loads of chances to "big ring it" on the flats and downhills and you'll be able to recover better if you need to (which you will).

depends on what you want the outcome to be.

Mind you, Shaggy won the Strathpuffer on a SS - so what do I know? (although Shaggy's a robot).

  13. I will have to do and pro and cons list. Thing is the chance of me being competitive so much depends on who else does the event, I am not fast in the slightest! I am good at keeping going though!

    I don't think I am in shaggy's league!
