Last night it was snowing for a while so we went to bed and set the alarms for early (I thought 6am but Ali had set hers for 5:30am as she knew that she takes ages to get out). So really early she dragged herself to the window says there was loads of snow but maybe we should go back to sleep. I had a look and told her not to be silly. So it was breakfast, snowboard gear on and out the door. There was a good 4 inches of fresh powder and it was still snowing!
Over to the golf course and we tried the slope we had found on our walk, it was slightly hidden so we hadn't noticed it before. With all the powder it wasn't quite as steep as we would have liked so it was on to another slope. When Ali had come over before Christmas she had found it too steep. With about 6 inches of fresh powder it was perfect. It was hard work walking though, my calves were trying to cramp all the time!
Oddly enough we were the only ones there so it was fresh tracks for us. As the slope got tracked out we headed over to another slope and had a go on a kicker that had been build by kids sledging the other day. Great fun!
As time was getting on it was back to the longer slope for a couple more runs before rushing home, pushing a car out of a side road as we passed. Ali changed into running gear - biking would be slow going with all the cars struggling - and headed off to work.
It's now snowing again so it might be night boarding later!
what a great idea. i wish i had some cross country skis
ReplyDeleteMe to, oh and knew how to use them. We want to try it although I am a little concerned as I can't alpine ski anymore but sure it uses knees in a different way?
ReplyDeleteWas a fab start to the day and its about to get even better!
awesome, I think I'm going to try boarding tonight as there's fresh snow here. Would love some cross country skis but considering snowshoe / board combo...
ReplyDeleteWe saw a guy on telemark style skis round the Pentlands over Xmas, making great progress as we crawled out of waist deep drifts and floundered around.
ReplyDeleteIt's great you are getting to play on your board, least this weather is good for something.
I'm not competent enough on a board to get mine out but I am at home today due to weather and thinking of getting my trail shoes on in a couple of hours and going for a run and if things aren't to slippy under the snow possibly come back and get the On One....
so cool! no way my test bikes are going to turn up today so i'm off out to build a snowman.
ReplyDeletethey do XC skiing at glenmore i think...
I normally LOVE the snow but this year i'm not enjoying it much at all; it's just too cold for me.
ReplyDeleteJulbags Just get out there, there is so much snow here it doesn't hurt to fall (I have avoided it so far and wear alot of padding though).
ReplyDeleteJenn A little too far in these conditions, will stick to impressing the local kids on the golf course!!!
Eizabeth Snowshoes sound a great idea!
Just had a fantastic snowy run, only aiming for a couple of miles as today is supposed to be a rest day but ended up doing almost 6. The soft snow was fab, crossing side streets was a little treacherous though.
ReplyDeleteLooks bloody ace. Wonder if there is a boardable hill within walking distance of my house?
ReplyDeleteI am sure there must be. I'm wondering how far I can cope with walking and where would be a good bet as out in the hills there are less likely to be sledgers!
ReplyDeleteThink I can ride somewhere with my board?
I guess you could strap your board to your back somehow :)
ReplyDeleteI used to have a bag that specifically had board and ski carrying, died the other year using it for other stuff. But not sure it wouldn't catch on the wheel. Ali said not to be so silly!
ReplyDeleteDo you have a board Simon? We might have a plan for sunday, when you won't be working!
I do have a board! No idea if I can remember how to use it (and I was pretty useless when I could!)
ReplyDeleteHoly cool adventures,Batman! I sure do wish I still had a board (spinal injuries be danged!). Sounds like the two of you had a grand ole time :)
