Starting running again

Last winter I was running well for me. I had got into the habit and I was enjoying it, I had even started running up hills. Then in April I managed to stop. So its time to get going again and this time I'm going to keep going. Running gets me really fit, I am pretty rubbish at it so I think it has a great training effect. Like lots of cyclists I am terrible for doing too much too soon so I'm making sure I start easy. To do this I am starting with really short runs. I would do the run/walk thing but once I'm out I want to keep running, I know! So today I went out just as Ali left for work, before breakfast as well. So unlike me I don't function without breakfast!

13:32 minutes (so slightly over the ten I had planned)
1.44 miles

  1. Starting and starting sensibly are both so hard to do. Well done!

  2. Ah, great minds! I did my first run in over a year last week and it felt good to be back. Good at the time. Won't share how my quads felt for the next 2 days.

Have you really noticed a big improvement in fitness by adding running? Hmm? You must run faster than me (quite frankly, everyone does)!

  3. Another well done for being so sensible, you'll be knocking out six miles soon enough.

  4. I am so bad at running Jo, hence it gets me fit quickly! I am obviously not designed to be a runner and couldn't run to save my life at all till I decided to learn at uni! It took me two months to run this loop I had, when I measured it it was half a mile long and had taken me over 10minutes. I didn't care as I had ran it!

  6. Just don't do what Redbikes does and start doing half marathons up mountains! 10% more each week, max.

  7. Don't worry I won't be doing what red does! I am always lecturing him about it.

Starting with short runs works better for me than walk/run as I forget to walk!

  10. I have had to stop running for a few weeks because of shin splints so I will be starting again soon, and I will make sure to be more sensible this time!
