Time trialling again

Back in 2008 I rode two club 10's. I always meant to do some more but somehow it didn't happen. Anyway tonight I went over to Rainford again and had another go. I'm guessing 192miles at the weekend wasn't ideal preparation so I'm happy enough with my 28:30. Ali came to and beat me by 9seconds. Looking at my heart rate I can go faster an average of 175bpm is low for me. But that was as hard as my legs would go!

  1. Your heartrate is a lot more even in comparison to your previous years, which is good. This time trial course looks brutal with the climb.

  2. 28:30 is great. I'd take that in a heart beat. What is your PB for 10 miles?

  3. @Simon 27:55

@Groover It's not a huge climb, have a look at the scale.

  5. That's a great time and Ali too (annoying natural athlete that she is!). I'd kill for that.

I had a go at doing 10 fast miles on Tuesday, working hard...I couldn't get my speed up much above 18. I'd ridden into work at that average without trying anywhere near as hard...ho hum. Hopefully when I do get to do one the race conditions will give me a kick up the arse else it will be embarassing.

  6. Where you parked near queens park yesterday afternoon? Little blue mini with little blue bike on top hmm looks like trio I thought.
No idea how good 28:30 is but just riding quickly after 192 miles is good!

  7. Perhaps your legs are still tired?

You averaged 16mph over a wopping 14hrs riding last week!

To get that sort of overall average on a long ride you must have been riding most of the way almost as quickly as you time trialled last night!

And before I forget, Well done Ali!!

  8. @donk Yes that was me waiting to collect Ali from work!

@Julbags I never get averages like 18mph commuting, it is so different in a TT you would probably find you are fine!

@redbikes I know my legs were tired, or at least that is my excuse for Ali beating me!

@kate I was thinking that Garmins should have a cake stop reminder. Beep and tell you it is too long since you last cake stop!

  9. Heart Rate and leg tiredness just dont work together.........what am I trying to say..if your HR was down, you may havebeen a bit tired and overtrained..........

  10. @Buttsy I hope I was tired after the weekend. I knew I wouldn't be at my best but wanted to give it a go. Was pleased with my time and it gives me something to improve on.

The rest of the week has been spent recovering which feels very lazy!

  11. Thats great. I fancy the idea of TT's but I think I'll do a bit more road riding first. I'd look a prat on a hybrid anyway but it's all I've got. Could do it on a 36lb MTB then I have an excuse for being slow ;-)

  12. Well done to you and Ali!

One thing that strikes me looking at your graph is that your pulse rate wasn't high to start with which makes me think that you weren't warmed up properly. It took a minute or so to get up to the 175 bpm. I think you should have been at the start line at 150 bpm or so having done a good 10 mile warm-up just before (or a good blast on a turbo trainer). I've never done a TT but I know that I can't ride flat out from a cold start.

You might get away with a cold start on a 50 mile TT but on a short one like that you want to be flying from the start!

  13. I think that sounds pretty fast. I'm doing my first TT of the year on Wednesday and I'm going to be pleased if I get under 30min.

  14. @Elizabeth you will get under 30mins, I thought no chance the first time but I did!

@Pink Orange 5 Just give it a go, noone cares what bike you are on and its ideal training for tri!

@ColinJ You are correct I wasn't warmed up, had just pootled around with friends. But even if I had I recover quickly! But if I wanted to take it seriously I would need to warm up. Probably a 50mile warmup for me!
